Again?! Dems Look To Push Green Infrastructure Measures In Trump’s ‘Phase 4’ COVID-19 Bill

I keep trying to tell myself that this isn’t real — but unfortunately, it is.

Democrat politicians are looking to stuff the next COVID-19 relief bill, in what’s been called ‘Phase 4’ by President Donald Trump, with tons of green energy provisions and pork. You know, things that have absolutely nothing to do with saving lives and stopping the spread of the coronavirus.

Rep. Peter DeFazio proposed a litany of changes, including huge funding for high-speed rails, reducing the carbon footprint of concrete, and cutting emissions from the airline industry.

Does any of that sound like medical supplies or economic stimulants? Hmm, nope.

“The materials that we use can be way greener,” DeFazio said, according to The Hill. “We can reduce that footprint by half, with new materials that have been developed, we can actually go to carbon-negative concrete. … So this can be a very green bill.”

But goodness gracious it doesn’t stop there.

The chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., also had a few not-so-bright ideas. Through the bill, he wants states to become more energy efficient, fund a national network of charging stations for electric vehicles, and incentivize Americans who “weatherize” their homes.

He said this would “modernize our transportation system, save fuel and create a more efficient transportation system.”

What does this have to do with flattening the COVID-19 curve or helping the millions out of work? It’s a goulash of asininity and insanity.

This all comes just a week after Nancy Pelosi upended the bipartisan senate talks with her own ideological wishlist (you know, something that 70,000 people petitioned she resign for doing). Now it seems Democrats are prepared to give their whirlwind strategy another shot.

I wish them good luck, because Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has seemingly grown a backbone in the last year and is not going to give in easily.

“I’m not going to allow this to be an opportunity for the Democrats to achieve unrelated policy items that they would not otherwise be able to pass,” McConnell said on Tuesday.
