With President Donald Trump’s approval rating hitting its peak amid the coronavirus pandemic, some are speculating that Joe Biden is going to be facing the stout competition.
David Plouffe, who was former President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign manager, claimed that Trump would receive “historical” turnout in the 2020 election.
“That makes him very dangerous if you’re Joe Biden,” Plouffe said on The Fox News Rundown podcast.
“You look at the economic situation and say, ‘How can an incumbent win in that?’ But, you know, no one’s blaming Trump for the damage,” Plouffe stated, adding, “I think if you can lay his crisis response at his feet and connect that to the economy, I do think that’s some headwind he’s got to run into.”
He continued, saying, “I think he’s going to turn out voters almost at a historical level on his behalf, so that makes him very dangerous if you’re Joe Biden.”
Kellyanne Conway, counsel to the president, echoed these fantastic approval ratings on Wednesday, saying that Trump has “never had this high an approval rating on the economy, and certainly deserved it.”
Many speculate that the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis could have been exponentially worse if the president had not worked for the last three years to cut taxes, deregulate the private sector, and implement massive trade deals.
Regardless, Trump is at his peak just months before the 2020 election, which should terrify the former vice president.
